  1. Junior market goats will be weighed and classified immediately following the conclusion of the junior sheep on Monday August 12, 2024.
  2. All goats entered in the market division are subject to a sifting committee to eliminate undesirable animals from the show. All sifting will be done at weighing time.
  3. Weight limits market goats: 40 Lbs. minimum, no maximum. Weigh-outs will be allowed. One re-weigh after all goats have been weighed.
  4. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS & INSPECTION PROCEDURE:
    1. All market goats will be slick shorn (to a uniform length no more than a 1/4” of hair) prior to arrival at the fair.
    2. Goats must arrive by 11:00 am on Monday, August 12.
    3. All goats will be inspected at the gate or receiving area.
    4. Goats must be naturally hornless, disbudded, or dehorned but shall have no horn or scur longer than three (3) inches.
    5. Meat goats shall have their milk teeth.
    6. Obviously ill animals shall be removed from the barn at the discretion of the superintendent. No open abscess allowed.
  5. Goats may be shown using a collar or lead.
  6. Weight classes will be broken at the discretion of the superintendent.
  7. The number of animals to sell from each species (Swine, Sheep, Goats, Beef Cattle and Dairy Heifers) will be determined on a percentage based (70%) on the number of exhibitors per species/per barn, capped at 102 sale slots total.
  8. All sale goats and packer goats need to be delivered to the southwest corner of the steer trimming barn at 9:00 am, Saturday, August 17.
  9. Entry fee is $5.00 per goat and is due online August 1, 2024.
  10. Upon check-in all muzzles and blankets must be removed, and goats must be haltered.
  11. No adhesives or paint shall be used during the show. Powder may be used.

 

Booster Goat Class – 4:00 p.m. 

  1. Must be 8 years old and under

    ** 8-year-old must not fall into the novice age division or special age category.

  2. Youngster does not have to own animal shown. If animal is owned by exhibitor, he or she is responsible for marketing that animal.
  3. Class will be judged on showmanship only.

 

Wether Doe Exhibition Class

Wether Does entered must be ewe lambs (born fall 2023-spring 2024) and must be owned by June 15, 2024 and must have been validated/tagged during county tag-in according to NMLB guidelines. Wether Does will be weighed at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024. Wether Does will not be eligible to sell in the Jr. Market Livestock Sale. Wether Does shown in the market show will not be eligible to show in the breeding show. Wether Dam and Wether Doe show will be held immediately following the Curry County Bred Lamb Show on Thursday August 15. Wether Doe classes will be broken by weight based on number of entries. Wether Does may be shown with hair and not required to be slick-shorn. Entry fee is $5.00 per goat and is due online August 1, 2024.
